SUMMARY
Finding and exploring Commonway Church's website is one of the primary ways people get introduced to the church. Thus, it was imperative to create an inviting design, one that showed Commonway isn’t a church full of perfect people, but rather one made up of authentic, imperfect people doing life together.

REAL PEOPLE.
NOT STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY.

How do you foster a design that communicates authenticity and invitation? You feature REAL people, not stock photography. The vast majority of photos used on the site are of real attendees of Commonway.

OFF-CANVAS MENU

One of the challenges with the Commonway site was to accommodate their desire to avoid an abundance of navigation nesting, and instead, include most navigation options as top-level pages. As a result, a horizontal menu wouldn’t work due to space constraints and so the experience I came up with was the off-canvas menu. This utilized a vertical menu “behind” the site that could capture all the top-level pages Commonway wanted to without using a bloated, traditional horizontal menu.

TECH.

SERMONS
MODULE

One of the main reasons people visit Commonway’s site is to listen to their sermons. I set up and customized a sermon plugin enabling Commonway to easily upload sermon audio/video, organize sermons into series, and auto update its podcast feed whenever a new sermon was posted.

COMMUNITY
PLATFORM

Commonway wants to foster community all throughout the week, not just on Sunday mornings. I helped integrate their third party community platform with the website – enabling users to log in, view their personal profile, browse the church’s directory,  join groups, and contact other members of the church easily.

ADVANCED
EVENTS

A simple events module wasn’t going to meet Commonway’s needs. Together, we implemented a robust events module that made it easy for church staff to post and manage events – as well as for church members to quickly find and RSVP for events that peaked their interest.
